Leocadia Banuk, 101

Leocadia “Lidia” (Gusciora) Banuk, a longtime resident of Quincy and Weymouth, died on July 10, 2017 at age 101 after a short illness.

Mrs. Banuk was born and raised in South Boston, where she was an avid winter and summer sportswoman in her early twenties’ who entered many local competitions, winning many trophies for her ice skating, track and tennis skills. She married   a Quincy man, Joseph Banuk before the war and  worked in the Quincy Shipyard during WW II. When the war started, her husband Joseph J. Banuk joined the Navy and became a petty officer. Joseph died in 1979. Lidia was a very independent woman and lived on her own until the age of 95. She spent the last few years of her life in the Pope Nursing Home in Weymouth where she was well cared for.

Devoted mother of Ron and his wife Patricia of Rosamond, CA., Gary and his wife Barbara of Hanson, Elaine Trudell  of Weymouth, Miriam Dennis of Weymouth,  and John Banuk QFD and his wife Debbie of Weymouth.  Loving grandmother to Kim, Lance, Anathea,  Garrett, Joseph,  Marilyn, Daniel, Kenneth, Alexandra, Zachary, Jon and  Andrew. Besides her grandchildren, she leaves 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who adored her.

Visiting hours at the Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home 100 Washington St. on Thursday, July 13 from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm immediately followed by a  funeral service in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery in Quincy.
