Mary H. (Golden) Ring, age 91, of Quincy and Marshfield, died peacefully, Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at her Quincy home, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born in Quincy to the late John A. and Mary G. (Flaherty) Golden. She was raised in Quincy and was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s Elementary School, Quincy High School, Class of 1944, and the Burdett School of Business. Mary lived in Quincy for most of her life and summered in Green Harbor and later becoming a permanent resident of Marshfield, until recently moving back to Quincy.
She was employed by her family business, The Golden Print, as well as the MDC as a school crossing guard for twenty-five years, working intersections in Quincy at the former Willard School and St. Mary’s School and later in Dorchester.
Mary was active in senior affairs receiving her gerontology certificate at UMass Boston in 2002. She was on several boards serving elders, including St. Mary’s Seniors in Quincy, Marshfield Elder Service, Marshfield Senior Center Building Committee, and the Triad Board, as well as Old Colony Planning.
She was well known for her knitting and crocheting skills. She donated items to various veterans’ organizations and had won many “Ribbons” at the Marshfield Fair for her exquisite work. She loved to travel but playing her weekly card games as a member of “The Emerald Nuts” was her favorite.
Beloved wife for seventy years of David J. Ring. Devoted mother of David J. Ring, Jr. of Marshfield, Joseph P. Ring and his wife Karen of Marshfield, John M. Ring and his wife April of Hull and Port Charlotte, FL, Maura E. Ziegler and her husband Richard of Quincy, and the late Michael J. Ring. Loving grandmother of Meredith, David, Marisa, Kendra Ring, Patrick Ring, Christopher, Kerin and Shania Ziegler. Great grandmother of Sage. Dear sister of the late John A. “Jack” Golden and his wife Doris of Cohasset, and the late Barbara Golden. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Mary’s Church, 95 Crescent Street, West Quincy on Saturday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy on Friday 4 – 7 p.m. Interment Saint Mary’s Cemetery, West Quincy.
A memorial service will also be held in Marshfield at a later date.
