Evelyn E. (Riihimaki) Furfari, age 92, of Kingston, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Wingate at Silver Lake, in the comfort of her loving family.
Evelyn was born in Quincy to the late Thomas E. and E. Matilda (Riihimaki) Riihimaki. She was raised in West Quincy and was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1943. Prior to living in Kingston with her daughter, Maryann, she had lived in Quincy for most of her life.
Evelyn was employed as a senior clerk in the Purchasing Department for the City of Quincy for many years. She began her career working as a teller at the former Quincy Savings Bank.
Evelyn was proud to be a Suomalainen and possessed Sisu. She was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed supporting the activities and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Beloved wife for sixty-three years of her high school sweetheart, the late Louis R. Furfari, Jr. Devoted mother of Robert M. Furfari and his wife Jeanne of East Kingston, NH, James L. Furfari and his wife Susan of Fountainville, PA, Kenneth P. Furfari and his wife Lynne of Abington, Maryann Furfari-Musto and her husband Benjamin of Kingston. Proud Grammy of Kathryn Furfari-Martinez, Paul Furfari, Ashley L’Esperance, Lindsey and Lauren Furfari, Erika Nurmenniemi and Kara Furfari-Carbone. Proud Great-Grammy of four great-grandsons. Dear sister of the late Wilfred T. Riihimaki.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Monday, September 17th at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the funeral home Sunday 2 – 5 p.m. Interment Pine Hill Cemetery, West Quincy.
