Lola F. Heiler-Stillman, 74

Lola F. Heiler-Stillman, age 74, of Jamaica Plain, formerly of Tucson, Arizona, and Milton, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Heiler_LolaLola was born in Boston to the late Lee A. and Helen V. (Zagami) Heiler, Sr. She was raised in Milton and was a graduate of Fontbonne Academy, Class of 1961, and also the former Boston State College. She later earned an MBA from Northeastern University and an MSW from Arizona State University. She had lived in Jamaica Plain for twenty years, previously in Tucson, Arizona, for ten years, and earlier in Milton.

Lola was a well-known organist at Saint Joseph’s Church in Quincy for over fifteen years where she developed many lasting friendships with clergy, staff, and parishioners. She loved playing for all occasions – Sunday Mass, special liturgies, confirmations, weddings, and funerals.

As a young woman, she began her career in the telecommunications industry for several years with AT&T before her calling to work in social services.  As a social worker, Lola dedicated herself to assisting those in need and especially the homeless. Working in Boston and Tucson, she provided comfort and advice to homeless veterans and Native Americans for many years and often provided pro-bono assistance.

Lola was an avid reader, a Boston Red Sox fan, and was interested in history, archaeology, and genealogy. She was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross in helping victims of Hurricane Katrina who were housed in Camp Edwards on Cape Cod. She was also an advocate for the Emerald Necklace Conservancy in Boston.

Devoted mother of Leeja Horne of Boston, Jennifer M. Stillman and her husband Leandro Carrera of London, England, and Marianne Peterson and her husband John of Fort Pierce, Florida. Cherished grandmother of Christian and Brittany. Former wife of Nathaniel Stillman and his wife Tracy of Hingham.

Dear sister of Lee A. Heiler, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Plymouth, Matthew J. Heiler and his wife Janice of Mountain View, CA, and Grace H. Swierk and her partner Brian Costello of Quincy. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Saturday, March 16th at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint Joseph’s Church, 550 Washington Street, Quincy at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Friday 5 – 8 p.m. At the request of the family, interment will be private.
